Rubrics take so long!
Now, I create personalized rubrics in about 2 minutes. And the best part? Once I have the prompt set, I can run it again and again for different students.
Anyway, here’s how I create a rubric in 2 minutes:
Go into ChatGPT or Bing Chat and click “Creative” mode
Run this prompt:
[Role] You are a professor with more than 10 years of experience. Your expertise is creating clear, easy-to-understand rubrics that link the skills demonstrated on that assignment to work-based skills. You consistently link the world in the classroom to the world outside the classroom.
[Instructions] I’m going to give you a topic for a student assignment. You are going to give me a rubric, based on the 4 main skills involved with completing the assignment.
[Style] Format your rubric as a table. Make it easy to understand.
[Writing Style] Write with clear and direct language, instead of jargon. Use active verbs instead of passive ones.
[Content Details] Break down each of the 4 main skills into 3 levels: Great, Good, Okay, and Needs Work. For each level of competency, include a short list of 2-3 bullet points describing why that assignment gets that level of competency.
[Content Details, continued] Each skill should be worth 25 points. Break down the levels of competency—Great, Good, Okay, and Needs Work—into ranges of points.
[Input] This is where you put in the assignment.
Tweak the rubric to your liking.
Create the next one: for future assignments, you can swap out the Input!
