The goal is to give students immediate feedback on their writing, before they hand in an essay or sit for peer review.

By completing this activity, students will practice:

➢ incorporating feedback

➢ communicating clearly and directly

➢ using a growth mindset

➢ reflecting

Here are the steps:

  1. Go into ChatGPT (to do this, you can click here)
  2. Write these words “Hi, assistant. I was wondering if you could give me feedback on a written assignment.” (Use these words because you’re priming the system to give you helpful feedback.)
  3. Write a response in which you:
    1. Specify what kind of written assignment you have created (is it a persuasive essay, an analytical essay, a creative writing assignment, etc.)
    2. Include your rough draft
  4. Read ChatGPT’s feedback. Then, write a response starting this way: “This is helpful. For my final draft, I will make the following changes…” and list them out.
  5. Hold down “Ctrl” and “P” to print out the transcript. Click on “Save as PDF” and save it to your computer. Then, you’re ready to upload it to the course’s LMS.
